For sale we have a very clean mid 60's Gibson LG-0 acoustic guitar in a Gibson alligator chipboard case with Worchester/Rochdale,Mass hardware. The only thing left of the case's inside string pocket is the lid with the Gibson star logo intact.
According to the A.R. Duchossoir compiled serial number list as contained in Gruhn's Guide to Vintage Guitars this instrument would have been made in 1965.
This LG-0 features an all mahogany body and top with lateral bracing, a 1-piece mahogany neck, 3 on-a-plate strap tuners, screwed-on thick pickguard. 24-3/4 inch scale. Rosewood FB with 20 frets that have lots of life left in them. The tortoiseshell celluloid binding on the top shows no rot or cracking, and is firmly attached with some slight shrinkage relative to the wood. No loose braces. The strap tuners work ok with solid buttons and all the post bushings. Gibson was using bolted-on plastic upper belly bridges on the LG-0l during this period, and we've never seen one that wasn't pulling out of shape (as is this one, please see last picture.) The guitar is very playable and sounds like you would expect regardless of the bridge appearance.
This specific instrument has seen little use based on its condition, and is one of the cleaner examples of an LG-0 that has come through the shop here. There is light patina on the tuner straps, with a few light scratches, scuffs and marks. Please feel free to ask questions if you have them and thanks for looking.
